Edenton Little Theater to Mount New Production

Arts & Entertainment The Edenton Little Theater is back in the spotlight, after a very long intermission. The current vice president, Brewster King, announced this week that the group, which became inactive more than a decade ago, is in the midst of a reformation and already planning a production.
"We've been interested for some time in getting the Edenton Little Theater up and running again, " said King, " Quite a few people have moved into the area in recent years, and many may have prior theater experience. The long-time members are very excited about getting those people involved too."
King also introduced Edenton newcomer Carolyn Pastorek during the meeting. Pastorek moved to Edenton in March from Columbia, SC, and brings with her quite a few years of community theater experience as an actor, director and production member. She will direct the first production planned for October, 2009.

Bear a Fact in Edenton

I was pedaling my bike down W.Queen Street to the Chowan Arts Council Opening about 5:15 this evening. As I approached the Presbyterian Church a sleek, three foot high, black bear loped across the street right in front of me and bounded into the parking lot.

County Budget Confusion

Chowan CountyThe following information was presented during public comments at the Chowan County Commissioners Special Meeting, Thursday May 7, 2009, 6:00 pm.

The county budget (for 2009-2010) under which we are currently operating and approved by the NC Local Government Commission is $17,244,818 and is based on a 65 cent property tax. I believe it is fair to say that we are or will survive this year on this tax rate and budget. It seems all our bills were paid and our services were apparently acceptable.

Commissioners Make Progress on Budget

Chowan CountyThe commissioners finally made some serious progress to address the FY 09/10 Budget, and I am hopeful that they will be able to balance it without a tax increase, and without Draconian cuts in services. The next meeting to continue this process will be Monday, May 11th, probably at 6 pm at the old courthouse.
