The big question is - how do you tell the difference between a U.S. Census worker and a con artist? BBB offers the following advice:

As comments and stories that have no attribution or ownership other than "Anonymous" carry little credibility, the Site's policy has been changed. To post a story or a comment you now must register. Registration requires a user name and a valid email address, all other information is optional. Your email address will be kept confidential.
Posting under a user name enables you to gain credibility and a reputation that will enhance your postings. ALSO: when logged in your IP address will not be published or disclosed as was the case with 'anonymous' postings. And - logged in posters will not be bothered by those annoying CAPTCHA squiggly letter things.

I was pedaling my bike down W.Queen Street to the Chowan Arts Council Opening about 5:15 this evening. As I approached the Presbyterian Church a sleek, three foot high, black bear loped across the street right in front of me and bounded into the parking lot.

The following summarizes my observations of today's marathon (8:30-5:00) meeting of County Commissioners and various county department heads who are drafting the FY09/10 Budget. Unfortunately, there isn't much to report, as the commissioners once again provided no policy guidance to Peter Rascoe (Item 10 on the agenda was: "Consideration and Adoption of any FY 09/10 budget policies.") The only substantive action taken was a vote to remove from next year's budget $25,000 to conduct an employee pay study. To me this is penny-wise and pound-foolish. Recall that one highly qualified member of our group volunteered to do such a study for free, but none of the commissioners I spoke with is interested.
